Hi, I'm trying to run this on Mint 17.3 with conky 1.9.0, and nothing shows up on the desktop when I run conky. I copied .conkyrc and .conky-vision-icons to my home directory, but when I run conky, either in the terminal or by adding conky to my startup applications, nothing shows up on the desktop. If I use the default .conkyrc, the default display does show up on my desktop. When I run conky with the Conky Vision .conkyrc in the terminal, this is the terminal output:

$ conky
Conky: forked to background, pid is 7207
$
Conky: desktop window (1a00026) is subwindow of root window (d4)
Conky: window type - normal
Conky: drawing to created window (0x3a00001)
Conky: drawing to double buffer

If I then "killall conky", the Conky Vision display does flash briefly on the screen.

What am I getting wrong?

I figured it out. The solution was here: github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/… (change own_window_type to desktop).

You have conky version 1.10.x probably, which uses a new lua syntax. I haven't updated this conky for that version.

This is sooooo awesome!
Very minimalistic, simple and elegant... i'mso sad you won't/can't create a rainmeter (or any other apliation that runs under windows) theme from this... :(

I'm searching for a good weather skin for almost half a year now to complete my desktop cstumization and i thought i finally found it... unfortunately i won't be able to use it ^^

Still: Amazing work you did with this theme and all the other stuff in your gallery... just the "wrong" OS ;)

Obviously me, 'ause i can't use the best weather theme i came across xD

But that's why i put "wrong os" inquotation marks. I use a linux OS on my old netbook and i like linux A LOT, but it's still easier to use windows for your main pc... unfortunately...
Thanks for your reply! :)

Hi mate,
really nice stuff!
Just two question, I have two screen (extended mode), and I got the widget divided in between the two screens. Could be great to have it in both screen or but having it in the main screen will be enough.
an the other question, how to make that it working from the boot, without typing a command.

many thanks

Hi,
Great skin!

Could You help me with fix it on Linux Mint 17.2? When I load it up, it looks like this:
s10.ifotos.pl/img/zuojpg_wqqwn…

I didn't changed font sizes, even in system. The only thing which I changed was language displayed (but on original script with English it looks the same).

The clock doesn't appear to have the correct font. Have you installed it?

Yes. Also system see them in font menu (I'm using Cinnamon).
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/Raleway: caching, new cache contents: 2 fonts, 0 dirs

Maybe it's something with default font sizes in system? But i.e Harmattan works fine.

:iconzagortenay333:
Really no clue what the issue is. The only thing different about the clock is that it uses a light version of the Raleaway font.
Try installing the fonts under ~/.fonts or ~/local/share/fonts.

I have placed fonts in both locations, installed libotf-bin and even convert OTF to TTF but with no luck.

For test purpose, I have leave only one font in the system (thin version), rebuild font cache and it's showed as Raleway but still conky skin is broken.

The today day follows locale (numbers and days) language, while the other days stay in English no matter the system language.  Is it possible to make them all follow locale?

In fact I was wrong saying that the other days follow the system language. They stay English even after I changed my system language too!!

I think it's in ~/.cache/weather.xml.

There I see a list with what is on the desktop:

Thu - Partly Cloudy. High: 23 Low: 12

Fri - Sunny. High: 29 Low: 17

Sat - Sunny. High: 29 Low: 14

Sun - Partly Cloudy. High: 27 Low: 17

Mon - Partly Cloudy. High: 28 Low: 17

Can I change it there? I think that is temporary stuff anyway, changing every day etc.

Is it something related to yahoo weather being in English?

Yahoo only offers english. In order to use days in other languages you'll need to use other conky features, not rely on yahoo. Google should find the solution.

But can I use YOUR conky with another service, like the Yahoo weather service in French (fr.meteo.yahoo.com/)?

In fact what intrigued me is that I have seen your conky on an old website in Spanish and all the days were in Spanish. (entornosgnulinux.com/2014/03/0…). That PPA does not work anymore it seems.

The Spanish post is not yours, is it? :)
Reply
:iconzagortenay333:
No, I don't speak Spanish XD.

I meant that yahoo's API only offers English, and this conky utilizes the info provided by yahoo to display the days. In order to display them in other languages, you can use 'execi' and run the date command to show all the days, and use the LANG variable to change the outputs language.
Here is an example: pastebin.com/SJW663NA Take a look at the days section!

Also, this will only work for the days. Weather descriptions ('partly cloudy') and other stuff are provided by yahoo and only come in English.

Hey, quick question :)

I'm a complete noob to stuff like this, but why exactly do you 'execi 300'? I assume that this means the command is run once every 5 minutes?

Wouldn't this be a bit of a cpu drain? Since the temperatures won't be changing drastically over even a couple of hours, wouldn't a larger interval be more economical?

I've changed the code to make it run every hour... Can you see any downsides  to this?

Thanks!
P. :)

Dunno, I guess it's personal preference.  I kinda doubt that 300s is a cpu drain, but it makes sense to increase the interval as well.
